Understanding AquaControl's AquaSense SV1 and AquaFlow SV2 signal strength

This article explains the Signal or RSSI values displayed in the AquaControl Dashboard Activity log for Check-Ins.

LoRa Signal Strength

  • For AquaSense SV1 and AquaFlow SV2 LoRaWAN devices.
  • The RSSI dB value is displayed for LoRaWAN devices within AquaControl > Activity > Check-Ins
  • The RSSI floor is typically -120dB.  Anything from -120dB to 0dB is "enough" signal.
  • If RSSI is below -120dB, the device may miss check-ins periodically or become unable to communicate with the network.  In this case, we recommend installing additional LoRaWAN Gateways closer to the devices.
  • NOTE:  Depending on signal strength, the ADR function in the LNS is able to help conserve power when signal strength is good.

Cellular Signal Strength:

  • For AquaFlow SV2 Cellular LTE-M devices.
  • The Signal dB value is displayed for Celluar LTE-M devices within AquaControl > Activity > Check-Ins
  • The table below explains the range of dB values relative to performance.  The RSRQ column values can be ignored, we do not display this value within AquaControl.
  • If a device is struggling to check-in, Signal (dB) values can be examined to determine if there is adequate signal strength.
  • It is important to note that RSRQ is not the only factor.  A device may have fair to poor dB values and check-in consistently.  A device may also have good dB values and miss check-ins.
