AquaControl Platform Account virtual Location addresses versus Device Geolocations

This article explains how to respond to a customer that is asking about editing addresses in the the AquaControl platform.

Introduction

If a user ever asks a question about an "address" in the platform is it crucial to clarify what sort of address they are referring to.  They may refer to a Location or they may refer to Geolocation.  These are very different features.  See below for an explanation.

Geolocation

A geolocation can be configured at the device level within Device Details on AquaControl Web or in Valve Control using Aquana Mobile.   We recommend configuring geolocation using Aquana Mobile, connecting to the device using bluetooth.

IMPORTANT: The ONLY function this geolocation provides is to place the device on the "Map" view in AquaControl Web.

On Aquana Mobile, the user must:

  1. Navigate to Valve Control

  2. Connect to the device using bluetooth.

  3. Tap on Configure tab.
  4. Tap on Update Geolocation
  5. Either utilize the mobile phones location services by tapping on the geolocation icon
  6. Or tap the Street Address button and enter a street address.  This uses the lat/lon provided by the Google Maps API.

On AquaControl Web, the user must:

  1. Navigate to Device Details

  2. Click on the gear icon in the upper left corner of the information panel.
  3. Update Latitude and/or Longitude values.
  4. Click Submit to make the update.
  5. NOTE:  There is no street address function within this interface.  This is why we recommend using the mobile app.

Location Name / Address

Typically we recommend that Users name their virtual Locations using a service or street address like 123 Smith St.  Or an apartment number in the case of multifamily.

The Location Name can be anything that the user wants to use to identify the virtual location where a device is activated.

Typically Locations and their names are created during the Activation process.

In order to change a Location Name, ONLY an Owner or Administrator User can do the following in AquaControl Web:

  1. Click on Settings in the top navigation bar.

  2. Click on Location Editor
  3. Click the pencil icon next to the Location name that you want to edit.
  4. Update the Name field.
  5. Click Save.
